They did know the difference as their death story is based upon Vadel's discovery of animist lands (i.e. Pamaltela) and conflict with spirits. Genner is not the Malkioni name for Genert.

Worlath receives sacrifice because, like most other northern False Gods, he has fallen to the Great Error and no longer sees God as the origin of all things. The error of the southern False Gods and eastern False Gods are slightly different.
