Pelorian peasants say, "The goddess gives us bread and beer for life and plenty, oats to pay taxes, and cabbage for emergencies," but no mention of the spud (GB p.34).

Finula McCaul persuaded me at RQCon1 that potatoes are grown in Carmania (in large part through her mastery of culinary arts).

The "Let's Speak New Pelorian!" box in the Rough Guide to Glamour (p.17) gives the New Pelorian for "potato" as "spud", though -- given the flexible nature of that language -- the reverse is almost certainly true as well.
