Raiding

Heard something in passing on the TV last night which suddenly made the raiding of (some) Orlanthi perhaps sensible. Seems like some tribes here do the same thing.

It often starts that one tribe raids (for various reasons). They kill someone. They get raided in retaliation but noone dies. Now, the first lot owe weregild (sp?) to the second lot, but sometimes this is too much to pay. So (and here's the interesting bit for me), the first lot *have* to raid the second lot hoping that some of their people are killed in the raid - this would pay back what is owed! So there's this spiral of raiding hoping that one or more of your own people get killed, in the best way of course, in order that the tribe can pay off it's debts.

Sounds perfect for a Humakti, except they're so good they'd probably kill some people instead of being killed, and they may not count anyway since they're "not Orlanthi".
