I get the impression that they're for you to use in your game as inscrutable enemies with weird powers.

They are one of the many Malkioni sects. Sandy Petersen thinks they are found in more areas than most, because the cult was so widespread at one point, though I don't think they are large anywhere any more.

They came from Varburch, home of the Wordless Prophet :-) Since I haven't run Umathela in the 1200s, I haven't given them a whole lot of thought, but I'd probably play them as a mystical variant of Malkionism, which probably began with the idea that the path to the Invisible God begins inside each of us. This path can best be seen and followed by ignoring external distractions. (Well, maybe this metaphor is too visual, but that's the basic idea.)

Since the Wordless Prophet didn't speak, his message undoubtedly was misunderstood by Elassi the Stifler. Based on the geography, Elassi of Emanus is probably an Umathelan (i.e. of storm barbarian stock), rather than a Malki (coastal dweller), so it would be even easier for him to misunderstand.

(Emanus would have been a place where the Malki converted some of the Umathelans to their faith.)

The Thinobutu of Maslo are described as being Agimori.

BTW, where are Laskal and Kimos described? They seem to be missing from Missing Lands...
