There's a difference between understanding a theory, and being able to wo=
rk
out its consequences in the world.
To take an example from my own field ... Godel's theorem is not that hard=
to understand if you have a certain amount of the right background. But the theorem is about unanswerable questions, and however well you understand the theorem you still can't answer those questions.
