Aurorae, Comets

Nils asks:

> Is there something like our aurora borealis in Glorantha?

I tend to treat the "Ice Palace" constellation instead as a rather crystalline aurora, which appears over Valind's Glacier. NB: I have done more work on the Gloranthan night sky than most (see my "Ephemeris" for details), and can't find any other sensible way of more-or-less reproducing the effect described in Elder Secrets.

I also imagine there is an occasional scary blue glow above the Blue Moon Plateau, which waxes and wanes for unknown (and non-tidally-related) reasons.

> What are comets in Glorantha? Are there periodic comets?

If you trust Seleric Verses (the Scholar), you'll find that a prominent red comet was visible in 1220 or thereabouts...

We think there is another prominent comet which reappears at the end of every Age, and that the Comet Seers of WB&RM/DP are a hero band of Lunar Chronomancers and Dara Happan Astrologers who join together when they have "seen the Comet". But I note that they're down for inclusion in the forthcoming Hero Bands book from Issaries, so don't pay too much attention to my ramblings...

Cheers, Nick
