>What is the connection of the dark moon? Death, of course, but is
>it also the part of the moon that is more closely tied with Chaos?
>This is the first assumption, but it may be the wrong one.

Hmm... Death, Darkness, Chaos? I don't know. Definitely either Darkness or Shadow, and Moon, but I'd probably leave it at that. Anyway nowadays everyone has their own runes, rather than the old system of core runic associations. There's even a rune for the Black Moon.

>Afterall, those heortling bullies complain about head-aches when
>the moon is full (or at least visible, not dark) and The Bat, of
>course, is renowned for it's crimson glow.

So lunar power, even chaotic lunar power, is at it's maximum during the full moon and not the black moon. Therefore I don't think the black moon has anything to do with chaos directly.

>But back on the topic. What power does the blackmoon rock have?
>As you people know by now, I like playing with elemental
>assosiations. Red "lunar silver", enchanted and alloyed with some
>moonrock for those neat magic scimitars, and so on. But how about
>dark-silver. Enchanting silver with the power of the dark moon, or
>Destix. What should the assosiation be? Death? Chaos? Darkness?

Thanatar/Tien has the darklight spell as Julian has pointed out, and also uses tarnished silver. He was also apparently defeated by either Storm Bull or the Black Sun (Perhaps in his Solar Storm aspect?), depending on who you believe. He corrupted the light of truth (or perhaps stole secret knowledge?), hence his darklight powers. Rashorana is associated with the Black Moon, perhaps because she has secret knowledge (illumination).

Clearly light and dark are not mere opposites. I could argue that Tien's lust for knowledge was only possible because those who had knowledge kep secrets - the darkness within the light. If all had been shared equaly without stint, there could have been no lust for that which was denied. There is a Black Moon because universal Lunar conciousness has not been realised universaly, when it does the White Moon will be born.

All Hail the White Moon!
