I strongly suspect that the guilds of the Sartarites are a convention that they learned from the Esvulari (Westernised city dwellers) in Heortland, and extend beyond the normal boundaries of clans and tribes, however there is still a degree of internal conflict within the guilds associated with clan relationships. The role of a guild is to ensure a degree of product quality, consistency in pricing and standards, as well as being about support and unity. It is a bit like a trade union such as Unison, but much more primitive (or advanced depending on your perspective).
