Current informed speculation is that to trolls, Chaos is *an* enemy, but not *the* enemy. That is (and I'm subject to correction here), to a troll, *the* enemy is the Sun/Death. Chaos, like Storm (and any number of other things), is an unpleasant, dangerous aspect of Hurtplace that you can nevertheless work with if you have to. As you note, Uz are okay with the mildly chaotic Cave Trolls.

Bozkatang is single-mindedly anti-chaos, but I don't think any other major Troll figures view Chaos as the prime enemy. (Zorak Zoran, of course, is single-mindedly anti-everything.)

If I may speculate--I think the reason RQ-era sources portray trolls as vehemently anti-chaos is, they are mostly written from a human source. And if you talk to a typical Gloranthan human about trolls, the one good thing he'll end up saying about them is, "Well, they stuck with us against Chaos at I Fought We Won" (or somesuch). That is, humans give greater weight to trollish anti-chaos feelings than the trolls themselves do--because any human stories of co-operation with trolls is likely to center around chaos-fighting.

I 'spect that tinges most human stories of trolls. For example, I'll bet a lot of humans think that Uz and Dragonewts broke with the First Council because it was chaotic. Now, I'd think that the Uz broke because the First Council was creating a Light god (and don't we have quite enough of those already, thankyewverymuch?), and the Dragonewts broke with them because, hell, because "their auras are heartfelt under the standing stars" or some such Dragonish bullshit. But to Heortlings, Chaos is the be-all and end-all of enemies, so they tend to reduce every other fight to some version of Chaos-pro-and-con.

IMHO... --AMS P.S. Is it "Bozkatang" or "Boztakang"? I see both on Google. Or is this another L[h]ank[h]or M[h]y thing?
