That's not quite right. Lodril's Spear first plunged to earth in the Footprint (near the Petrified Forest), to impale a previously-stamped-upon chaos creepy-crawly (Krarsht) that had bitten the heel of the God of Movement (Larnste); Lodril subsequently burst *out* of the earth again (either at the Vent, or more likely at the even bigger volcano which was later truncated by Argan Argar to become the Shadow Plateau), in the first ever volcanic eruption.

The story was better told in the RQ Companion's "Holy Country" article, FWIW. Simon Phipp cleared up a confusion by suggesting that Caladril (or whoever) made the Vent; Lodril made the Shadow Plateau Volcano; so everything's hunky-dory (scroll to end):
