My first thought when I read the HQ examples was "Wow - these guys really know gamers!" In my experience there is always at least one player who has his heart set on something completely weird ("Why can't I play an elf Storm Bull?"). Most of my players are familiar with Glorantha, and like the setting, but don't particularly care about the details. They absolutely *hate* being told "No, it doesn't work that way in Glorantha." Thus, I have learned to count to ten in my head and then say "Yes, but...". The results are sometimes more creative and entertaining than the more standard player characters.

An example from my current game is a player who, without reading the HQ rules, decided to be a Carmanian ancestor worshiper (and thus a theist) who could summon famous ancestors and have them possess either himself or one of his followers. Working this out in game terms was difficult for me, and I am still not sure I am doing it the best way possible. The player ran with the ball, however, and has a stack of narrative descriptions for the ancestors his character can summon. I have rarely seen so much creativity go into a character in one of my games, so I am disinclined to nit-pick with him on the details. You don't slow someone down when they are on a roll! <laugh>
