A better and easier analogy are The Science Of The Discworld books (Pratchett, Stewart & Cohen) in which the Wizards of the Discworld actually (and needless to say somewhat accidentally) create a complete and non-magical universe in a small globe. Our universe.

Much hilarity ensues along with Wizards meeting real world science. Chapters alternate between the Discworld story and the RW Science behind them.

Narrativium. What a brilliant concept.
