We do. The elves translate their names for the benefit of humans (p34 ES: Elder Races Book) hence Rohir Oaklimb, Penacyr Heartwood and Koncherry the Robber.

And the human translation of that name is "saw-tooth" indicating that the people of Dragon Pass do know what a saw is.
