The players are settling a cursed valley, and not doing too bad a job. There WAS a Jack-o-bear that wandered through (with lots of stolen plate and chain armour, and a great sword - quite needless, as the entire party got harmonised. It was nearly bye-bye time, when the desperate pleadings of Halgrim the Humakti came to the ears of the local spirit of the Valley. One frigid blast of air later, and the jack is being blown away in a VERY bad frame of mind ("I'll be back ...") ). Anyway - scene set. One night, in the crimson light from the half moon, a guttural croaking from up-valley rouses the watchers. Armour on, out to the half-built stockade wall, and ... in crawls a Wyrm. Not your everyday Wyrm, this beastie was over 400 years old, riddled with evil, more tricks up it's sleeve than a Mississippi gambling boat, responsible for more terror, more ... well, you get the drift. I'd even exerted my limited artistic talent to the full, to show them what they'd be eaten by (this thing did a monstrous 1D10 + 6D6 damage). A most heinous monster, which SHOULD have been met by wild panicking and runnings-away. And did the party run away ? NO. Halgrim the miserable, no-good, low-down neo-prophet runs in heroically, criticals the thing to the chest with his great-sword delivering 25-odd points of damage. Shriek-writhe-screech-thwump. The only damage was from a coil of the thing smacking across the Uroxi's leg in it's death-throes. I mean, this is before ANYONE has a chance to do anything. My beautiful wyrm. Irreverently killed. Without even one person getting swallowed. I had to choke back a tear. It's things like this that make me want to throw in the towel. I had plans for that wyrm ... horrible plans involving bloodshed, slaughter, mayhem, possibly even ducks. All ruined. I'll get that bugger Halgrim yet, just see if I don't ... Message-ID: <9311180009.AA18579@windom.stortek.com> Date: 18 Nov 93 00:09:58 GMT X-RQ-ID: 2363 I have been talking with a couple of games store owners and have gotten a conflicting picture of what the RuneQuest scene is like these days. One owner told me that it was very difficult to get copies of RQ at all. He said that most distributors did not want to carry it because they felt that no one wanted to buy it. The other owner that I talked with said that he had no special difficulty finding RQ stuff. I am looking for comments from other people's experience: have you found it difficult to find RQ stuff. If yes have you talked to store owners and asked why? If yes then was it because the owners did not want to buy it, or because the distributors did not want to carry it? In any case, I think we really need to focus on how to get RuneQuest back into the stores. If we do not, then no one will buy it. If no one buys RuneQuest then the game will die.
