Does she have any magic that will stop or slow a disease as it is happening? NO! "Oh great Healer, this rash is consuming my body!" "Let me apply my treat disease skill, but until you actually loose some points in something I'm afraid Chalana Arroy can't help you." And here is how I deal with them: MY HOUSE RULES FOR DISEASE Upon being exposed to a disease, a character must make CONx3% until he succeeds in one. More powerful disease sources may require CONx2% or CONx1% rolls. The number of failures determines the rank of the disease. FAILURES INTERVAL TYPE OF LOSS 0 no loss 1 week temporary 2 day temporary 3 hour temporary 4 minute temporary 5 week permanent 6 day permanent 7 hour permanent 8+ minute permanent LOOSING CHARACTERISTIC POINTS A CON roll must be made at each designated interval. If it's successful, the character recovers, otherwise one characteristic point is lost. A successfully applied treat disease skill doubles the chance to recover from a disease. TEMPORARILY LOST CHARACTERISTICS. If a characteristic would be brought to zero through a temporary loss, permanently reduce the maximum value of that characteristic by one instead. PERMANENTLY LOST CHARACTERISTICS. If a characteristic is brought to zero through a permanent loss, that charactert is dead. REGAINING LOST CHARACTERISTIC POINTS Characteristic points cannot be regained until the character has recovered from the disease. TEMPORARILY LOST CHARACTERISTICS are regained at 1 point every week a CON roll is made. A successfully applied treat disease skill doubles the chance to recover points. PERMANENTLY LOST CHARACTERISTICS can only be regained through the divine spell Restore Health (Characteristic). This normally costs 300 p for initiates, and 1000 p for associated initiates. CON ROLL CONDITIONS FOR THE SICK CHARACTER CONx1% damp, dirty, exhausting conditions CONx2% engaged in strenuous activity, combat, working CONx3% travelling, resting in an uncomfortable place CONx4% resting on a stretcher or in a prepared camp CONx5% resting comfortably in a bed AND... CURE (DISEASE) 1 point divine magic touch, instant, stackable, reusable This spell cures one specific disease that the target suffers from. Each point reduces the severity of the disease by one rank. The ranks of diseases are given below for reference. 1 point lost temporarily per week 2 point lost temporarily per day 3 point lost temporarily per hour 4 point lost temporarily per minute 5 point lost permanently per week 6 point lost permanently per day 7 point lost permanently per hour 8 point lost permanently per minute A disease reduced to zero rank is completely cured. This spell does not restore any characteristic points lost due to the disease. In general, any religion that has the restore (characteristic) spell has this spell. These rules work just fine for me. They are wimpier than the originals so I apply them more often. Those failing to light campfires to keep themselves warm will have to make disease rolls, etc. I have found that loosing characteristic points for a few weeks annoys the players plenty. --------------------- From: ddunham@radiomail.net (David Dunham) Subject: Re: Home of the Bold Message-ID: <199401260734.AA16099@radiomail.net> Date: 26 Jan 94 07:34:00 GMT X-RQ-ID: 2900 >From: jjm@zycor.lgc.com (johnjmedway) >Subject: More on HotB >>> 2. I didn't remember Gorgorma being involved, but I found the reference in the Prosopaedia, while looking for information with which to refute this. Earlier references have referred to Y.A.'s mother as the Pentan "Goddess of Tormented Death" and as a "hell demon" ( Hist. of the Lunar Empire: Third Wane ). So which is it? Is this a refinement of the old info? (i.e. Gorgorma *is* the Pentan's "Goddess of Tormented Death"). Or is this a Greg? -------------------------------------- charles gregory fried in X-RQ-ID: 2847 >> >> Didn't mean to frighten you with my idea of conducting the battle of >> Moonbroth! If such a thing WERE to be done, I would say that only the >> commanders of the forces (say, 4 max per side) should participate, and >> I'd make each figure represent 10 (or more) combatants. THe battle Roderick's rules would require IMMENSE numbers of figures for something like Moonbroth. His are designed for a skirmish, and would be quite appropriate for some events leading up to/following the main battle. They're not what could be called "Operational Level" to borrow a term from wargames and minis rules for modern times. Mine are a far different set of rules, though. ( Frex. In mine, each stand of troops = ~ 250 men/trolls/whatevers, as opposed to 1 in Roderick's ) I am giving serious thought as to which scenario I'd like to do for next years Con. Moonbroth and The Building Wall Battle are the two I'd consider, because of 1) cultural significance and 2) they'd both look cool. I know I had already threatened either of those two for 2 weeks ago, but with another year to work on it, it could actually happen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | john_medway@zycor.lgc.com | Landmark Graphics Corp | 512.292.2325 | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------
