"Codex 1 was brilliant."---Ken Rolston

Here's an update of information about Codex,
a new magazine for RuneQuest and Glorantha fans.

Codex dedicates its entire contents to discovering the nature
and secrets of Glorantha through scenarios, articles, fiction
and essays.

Issue 1 is a Pavis special, with about half of the issue
examining facets of Pavic history, Lunar strategy in the city,
details of life and infamous residents. One of the articles
contains material originally intended for the upcoming
Strangers in Prax release from Avalon Hill but cut due to
space limitations.

Other articles include a two part adventure in Dorastor that
doesn't involve even a tiny bit of chaos, Sandy Petersen &
Martin Crim describing the nature of most of the Praxian
Tribes, and beautiful artwork by Laura Morgan, whose
illustrations of Toadface, Bigmouth and Greenpee the broos
should be very useful to anyone who owns River of
Cradles. Her art was originally intended for inclusion in
River of Cradles.
And that's not all, but you'll have to get a copy to see what
else.
Issue 1 is 32 pages typeset, plus front & back covers inside &
out.

There are only a few copies of the original printing of
Issue #1 left. Only 200 of these were in the initial run.
Collectors, hurry to get your copy of what is sure to become
a very rare item.

#1 will be reprinted for the foreign market soon, but may have
to wait a while for a US reprint. Even if #1 is reprinted,
It wll be reprinted with a different color cover.

Issue 2, in the works now, will feature Western Gloranthan
information. Here are some of the definite articles:

History of the Malkioni Churches
Timeline of Western History
Galastar, the city reborn
Clans of Mortasor

Subscription & Submission Information============

Codex costs $3.75 US per issue direct from my hand, or $5.00
first class US Mail. Foreign customers, see below for delivery
options and prices.
Checks or money orders only, please for all mail orders.

Foreign Codex Subscription Rates to the UK and Europe as of 2/14/94:
(Rates are higher for Australia)

Airmail, generally a week or two delivery: $6.75 US funds per
issue.

Surface mail, an unknown, mostly random delivery time
varying between 4 weeks and 3 months to the UK or Europe.
$ 5.25 US funds per issue.

I hate to be stern about this, but I cannot
guarantee that your subscription will EVER arrive via the
surface mail method.

Sorry, only US funds acceptable.

(A Postal Money order is available from
most country's posts, and can be issued in
US dollars. This works for me.)

If you are ordering multiple issues at once I can offer a cheaper
rate. Contact me with details of your order and I'll get you a
price. Double issue mailing can save a lot on airmail postage.
Subscribe with a friend!

I am currently negotiating for a UK distributor. If these
arrangements work out during the run of your subscription, your
remaining will be transferred to the UK distributor with any
appropriate credit, if any. (You may choose NOT to do this, if
you are a total completist collector. There will be minor
*cosmetic* differences between the US and UK editions.)

The publication schedule is intended to
be quarterly, but depends in large part on submissions. The
next issue is scheduled for release April 1, 1994. Make what
you like of that date.

your address, properly formatted for a delivery label
    (important only for foreign subscribers)

Writing for Codex=========================

I solicit your submissions of Gloranthan material for
publication in Codex. Due to production limitations, I only
accept articles submitted over e-mail or by disk. (Time does
not allow retyping from paper.) Disk is preferred to e-mail,
though file transfer via AOL is fine. Artwork is accepted in
hard copy, but since I must scan everything in, it should be
rendered in a format suitable for scanning. (That means
black & white ink drawings without large solid black areas.
The halftone pencils used in the first issue are very expensive.)
All rights revert to creators after publication, and creators
receive a free copy of the issue of Codex their material
appears in. Further, artists who send their work in a usable
computer format (Photoshop, TIFF, PICT, EPS, Freehand
3.0) receive their choice of two copies of the issue their work
appeared in, or one copy of two issues. The preferred format
is Macintosh Word 5.0, but I can read DOS disks and most
word processor formats. I also follow most of the
submission guidelines for RQ as published by Avalon Hill.
(I helped write them, after all.)

Codex debuted at RQ Con where I sold 70+ copies in the first 90
minutes of the con.

Thanks for reading to the end!
