Greg Fried here.

Been away from my computer for a few days, off on a job-interview, but I was
able to land a copy of _Strangers in Prax_ while on the road, so at least I
got _something_ out of the trip....

Question. In the desciption of Maculus, we learn that he fell prey to the
Cult of Immortality, "an insidious false religion that claims to sell the
secret of eteranl life." We are told that the cult is really a pyramid
scheme, and that when "Maculus finally reached the top of the pyramid, he
discovered that the religion he had spent the last 85 years toiling for was
an empty, hollow sham, and this prompted a complete nervous collapse." (SiP
25)

Now, given that the age for Maculus is presently given as 132 (SiP 30), how
is the Cult of Immortality to be understood as this "empty, hollow sham"?
Seems it did SOMETHING for Maculus. Is the "sham" that the cult just extends
life, but does not grant true immortality -- AND it requires draining others
of their youth? Any more about this cult?

John Hughes:
I definitely agree with your thoughts about the Uleria cult. Certainly there
will be temples that resemble a brothel, but it would be a shame to reduce
the entire cult to this image. If it isn't off limits to make this
comparison, I'd say lot of the Uleria cultists are something like the mother
of Deanna Troy on Star Trek. Sophisticated, expansive, broadly 'erotic' but
not necessarily sexual with all comers (oops! pun!).

GF out.

Well, I've seen Strangers in Prax! The cover looked a bit fuzzy, and the
price seemed steep ($19). Other than that I can't say, since only store I
could find it at wouldn't honor my Avalon Hill coupon. I'll wait for one of
the other stores to get it in.

>Eurmal cultists and Nysalor Illuminates.

The former are Tricksters; the latter are Riddlers. No connection.

I've always wondered why Riddlers are considered bad, when Orlanth rune
levels have to play a riddle game with Sun worshippers...

Not under the RQ3 rules.

>In GoG it states Trickster initiates are also Acolytes and as such recieve
>reusable divine magic BUT it doesn't list which. Is it just common divine?
>only Trickster divine spells?

Since Trickster temples are almost always only shrines, all they get is the
Trickster-specific spell of that shrine. And Worship Trickster.

>Also, it says Tricksters are not subject to (or protected by) the law. How
>would the general populace of Prax and Sartar view a "discovered" Trickster?

I suspect in most cultures it's more like "If you give me a Hotfoot, I'll
kill you." Tricksters are outlaws, but as long as they stay amusing they
could be tolerated. You just keep a careful eye on your chickens and your
daughters.
