I think your point is valid from a purely mathematical point of view. However, if your RQ players had encountered the mother of monsters or another such elder secret, would you have bothered to launch the damage dices?

I think that when there is 3 or more mastery of differences, may be there should
be no system resolution and an automatic description (may be what david meant).

whereas you could still want to roll the 1w ...

You may call it an Aura of power or whatever (if you've seen the fist of the north star
manga).
