Animists, of course often have limited magical resources - Single Use or x times per day fetishes - If you have a "Sees in the Dark" fetish that you use up on the Trollkin before the Trolls arrive then you will be in trouble!

It has been suggested a number of times that a Theists penalty whne failing to augment should be applied to the augmenting affinity rather than the augmented ability, so sending in waves of weak attackers could end up with them having penalties in "the big fight"

The "Ambush" attacks could go all out to cause wounds rather than reduce AP's - each wound is a -1 on subsequent actions - All you need to do is ensure they aren't able to heal all their wounds between contests! (actually this does sound like a perfect troll/trollkin tactic - the Trollkin aren't expected to "Win" the contest - well not unless the numbers are really overwhelming - merely to wear down the opponents.

Another way of looking at it is to say that the Trolls are augmenting for the main fight throughout the ambushes (you can spend as long as you like augmenting before a contest...) allowing them multiple augments ready in place when they leap out of the dark (always an advantage to the ambusher!). Say a +1 for every two rounds of combat fought by the Trollkin - this means that it is to the PC's advantage to finish of the mini-ambushes quickly rather than just diving for cover!
