There is some rule saying that each action lets you move 50 feet (or something like that) as an unrelated action. Thus, if the players are fighting the dragonsnail, the Tongue should be able to flee unopposed for around 50ft per action. I don't think he'd be directly involved at all. Unless, of course, the players wised up to it and ran past the dragonsnail searching for something bigger - then the tongue would become properly involved with "Run Fast" or some skill relating to navigating the maze of krasht tunnels, depending on how far he'd gotten.
