Ian's set-up says he's been thrown out of the temple. That suggests the priests think he's in the wrong. If he fled the temple before being discovered, maybe he'd still be OK.

I'm sometimes worried by the lethality of cult retribution -- before this thread it hadn't crossed my mind that Lhankor Mhy invokes the death penalty for infractions of cult rules.
