I've been running my group on mundane adventures and have just
started to develop some heroquests for them. I am uncertain on a
couple of points and could use some help.
- Each heroquest I've read seems to involve static values as
challenge numbers. Can heroes augment their abilities with magic or
other mundane skills before facing these challenges?
- How long do the bonuses from ritual magic, time, and location last
in relation to a heroquest? Let's say that a character successfully
performs a ritual like the Arming of Orlanth and gains a +15 bonus.
He is performing his heroquest on a holy day(+13), is starting out
from an important shrine(+14), and has the extraordinary support of
of 18 people(+8). This gives him a +50 total bonus points that he
can use in a variety of ways. Let's say he adds +20 to his Mythology
of Humakt skill to help him cross into the Hero Plane, +10 to his
sword skill, and +20 to his AP total. How long do these bonuses
last? Would they last the duration of his heroquest?
- Do the mechanics for extended contests apply to all types of tests
in a heroquest. For example, let's say that at one station a hero
must defeat a monster. Does he need to drive that monster's AP total
to less than -2X starting AP to gain a complete victory?
Thanks for your patience, guys. These are questions that didn't seem
clearly covered in any of the books. Any help you can provide is
greatly appreciated.
