That is correct. The godi leads the sacrifices, opens the way between the God World and the everyday world. A devotee lives the life of his deity.

I would think the latter is the best choice, if all other factors are equal.

The key is: amatuers and professionals at what? Godi make sacrifices, devotees do deeds.
