If you're intent on dropping the extended contest try this :-

  1. simultaneous roll to hit as a standard opposed contest. Apply all bonus that affect skill and use appropriate combat skills.
  2. If the result is a marginal sucess or better then do damage.
  3. Damage is also a standard contest using say Strength (+ AP affecting bonuses) vs Body ( or size or bulk.......). Include armour and weapon values here too.
  4. result as per consequences table.
	additional spice:
	1) Roll for body location.
	2) Allow transfer of "skill" between combat and damage skills. So
lets say you have combat at 5w and a standard default body of 13 you could go for an all out attack with an attack roll of 17w but if you loose you'd be using 1 body to resist damage.

        3) Bump damage results by the addtional success levels gained in rolling to hit E.G. a crit vs failure is 1 level over success so bump the damage test up.

This was just of the top of my head, no thought but it may help your juices flow.

        Dave.
