You are free to expend your HP raising your new Herd of Cattle to a level that better reflectes how you feel the gameworld should treat you. As has been pointed out at exhaustive length, there are any number of reasons to "explain away" those cattle you captured or thought you caputured. If YOU choose not to spend the HP, thats not something the narrator should necessarily address (although they could).

Perhaps you should look at it like this: he had a high ability ratingf in Go Invisible, for which the Helmet is a prop. In exactly the same way that a sword is a prop to your Combat ability. The system quite deliberately moves the location of such properties from the item to the character.
