Re: Re: Defensive Edge = Min. bid?

The way I understood it, the edge in a fight type contest is based upon the attackers total offensive edges - the defenders total defensive edges, which gives either and edge or a handicap. So, a two handed sword (^5) versus medium armor (^3) gives an edge of ^2. Or, a dagger (^1) versus heavy armor (^5) gives -^4. The attackers defensive edge means nothing during their attack.

So, if Boomer has a ^5 edge on his axe versus leather (^1), he has a ^4. So, if he bids 1AP, and wins, his opponents loss or transfer will be equal to 1AP + ^4 = 5AP times the multiplyer for his success. If he loses, he loses 1AP times the multiplyer for his failure.

Now, when Boomer is attacked by a fyrdman with a spear (^3), his ^9 magic armor gives a handicap of -^6. So, in order to effect Boomer at all, he must bid at least 7AP (7AP -^6 = 1AP). If Boomer loses the contest, he loses 1AP times the multiplyer. If the fyrdman loses, he loses 7AP times the multiplyer.

Does this explanation make more sense?

Christian
