That would take a complete success to do. [And they would get talked about afterwards for stabbing people in the back]

If they do drive them to negative that might mean that they are now running even faster as the retreat has now turned into a rout. I would say that unless they take them below -20 to an injury then they either get away or have a full turns lead on them in the chase. Remember as well if they are at negative you only get one more chance in an extended contest to finish them off before the contest ends.
