I actually rather liked it too. You did not actually have to be an apprentice or master to do useful things with it, and the flexibility of the spells was amazing. My very first RQ character (back when I knew basically zilch about Glorantha) was sorcery using thief. Form/set bronze was incredibly effective for him, both for undoing locks or hinges, and for stabbing people with their own swords, making helmets cover (or stab) eyes, etc. Reduce size was great too, he could either sneak into places only a cat could normally reach, or shrink the big burly guard down to more manageable dimensions. And of course, reduce size + flying was just abusive! There were lots of other potentially neat combos too! Not too reliable, not as easy as spirit magic, but you could really make it do COOL things :)
