Not at all sure I'd allow ANY 'become...' ability at all, but I wouldn't disallow 'Mindflayer' specifically, it's a good enough name for a nasty. 'Ilithid' I might disallow as too heavily rooted in AD&D.
OT: a player in our LARP group made a brief appearance as an Ilithid in a Drow house. He disappeared very soon, apparently the player had a migraine...
