Thinking this through, if you assume that the heroes do have some sort of destiny, and that the gods do give their gifts to people for some reason, it is perfectly reasonable that once or twice it will turn out that a heroes odd and off-beat ability is the 'magic key' that will get them past a seemingly impossible obstacle.

Of course, it could seem very contrived and hurt suspension of disbelief if the lunar hero guarding a critical point just happens to have a geas against laughing when one of the heroes has "odd squeaky voice." But maybe it isn't silly narrator manipulation, perhaps Eurmal foresaw this wyrd laden encounter, and gave the hero what seemed like a burden but turned out to be a blessing, in preparation for this day.

Just an alternate explanation to help justify narrators giving players a chance to use their flourishes.
