Initiating into a herocult fully is unusual and strange. It counts as
'your god' for worship purposes. You might get a weak affinity out of
it. Devotion is still going to be time consuming - and the hero will
probably be the only magic you'll have.
Greg has said on several occasions that most Heortlings don't do it
because its just not worth it.
A Player Charcter who does such a thing is going to do it because he
WANTS to, not because of the uberpowers he'd get.
If you worship a hero as a hero (casual worship) you get a feat and
some skills. Nothing more... And this may or may not take the 10%
time. Worship of such heroes is often seasonal or 'at need' and
when the need is gone, his worship ends.
The only time Renvold is worshipped is if there are sorcerous enemies
in the area, frex. (Or if you are a bunch of dedicated loonies who
hate sorcerers on a very deep and personal level)
It MAY be treated as a subcult but the thing is - there's no regular
worship of this new 'subcult.' You may be the only worshippers within
two weeks. This means things are much more difficult.
Now, if you spent a lot of tinme and managed to convert a chunk of
your tribe to this worship, then you'd be much better off. Or if you
preformed a heroquest that 'proved' this hero's status as a
Thunderbrother (something my gaming group did) then you could probably
treat him as a subcult rather than a 'stand alone' aspect.
