I would say that spending a HP to get extra special magical advantages is a perfectly good use of an HP. 'By the Power of Greyskull!", etc, etc...

If you are having problems with the scale of the augment bonuses you are getting in the game, my first thought is that this is more likely due to the much-debated problem with ever-escalating augments.

What are your player's relevent ability ratings, and how large are the augments they're rolling for?
