Why bother with special rules for automatic weapons? Just how is shooting someone with a machine gun (or flame-thrower, or laser gun) different from zapping them with a lightning bolt?

'Tostig repeatedly hacks at the carl using his bastard sword' and 'John sprays bullets at the shop assistant using his Uzi' are no different in Hero Wars. 'The Lunar College of Magic directs all their Sunspears at Harrek' and 'SAC simultaneously detonate five 10-megaton H-bombs to destroy Great Cthulhu' are no different, either from themselves or the previous pair. They all come down to an ability rating and (assuming this is an extended contest) a bid of APs. Hero Wars no more needs special rules for automatic weapons than it does for Sunspears, the Lunar College of Magic and bastard swords. This is a STRENGTH of the system.
