This is an interesting point. Furthermore it allows a little bit more differentiation between the "bad consequences" of missing the contest roll itself (failure to do what you originally wanted to do) and the "bad consequences" of missing the augment (which as suggested previously, could instead be applied as a penalty to the augmenting ability, or some other "bad side effect").
