OK, but in most cases the skills/specialisations are a bit narrower than that, with 'Scimitar & Shield' or 'Greatsword Fighting,' etc. But the bottom line, surely, is that HW/HQ is not a simulationist game, which means while there must be lines drawn between accuracy and abstracton, they will be drawn in rather different places than, say, with RQ. Distinguishing Sword & Shield Fighting from Spear & Shield is a pretty clear one, for example, but the difference between Short, Medium and Long Spear or the like matter less in such a highly cinematic, hero-driven. Draw the analogy with modern action films - they may note the difference between a Walther PPK, a .44 Magnum and a 9mm Beretta 92, but ultimately if the plot demands that a bad guy gets killed or, alternatively, that a shot failed to knock down the hero, the very different rounds fired are ignored.

But in all cases, Your Glorantha is just that, yours. One of the aims of making the rules simple, clear and standardised - three adjectives not man would apply to the original HW - then HQ should also make it easier for you to build in whatever tweaks you want.

All the best
