Actually, humans, as cursorial hunters, can and did catch any big herbivores by the simple expedient of walking after them. Herbivores in the wild have to eat most of the time in order to survive, so they run out of energy and have to stop to eat. The Plains Indians, before the white man reintroduced the horse in North America, used to hunt this way.
