I had one player who came up with a heroic goal from his character - he was playing a Humakti whose father was a Sword, and mother a Chalan Arroy healer. He wanted his character to be able to reconcile Life and Death. That gave me the inspiration for a storyline which is still continuing, and involving all my players' characters, after several years of both real and game time.

That promise I did not make, in fact I warned him that in my view of Glorantha anyone is capable of becoming a Hero - if they survive all the steps on the way. In the event his character made a mistake a couple of play sessions later, died, and being a Humakti that was it (although his spirit may eventually return as an Ally of a his replacement character).
