Another option would be to apply bumps to the result rather than your result, but use the following sequence:

Complete defeat
Major defeat
Minor Defeat
Marginal Victory/Defeat*
Minor Victory
Major Victory
Complete Victory

*The results table doesnt have a straight progression because it flips between marginal defeats and victories. You have to decide that the Master gains the advantage in the marginal result and passes straight from Minor Defeat to Marginal Victory.

So your 1w3 vs 20 would be "fail vs success"=minor defeat, then bump it 3 times to Major Victory.
