Unless it has been changed, you take the _best_ roll for each side, and adjust it for failures (+3) and fumbles (+6).

Ehm... I think I have stated my problem in my message, haven't I? Namely:

  1. how do you adjust a critical for failures and fumbles if on the simple contest chart when one of the results is a critical it doesn't matter the actual number you rolled?
  2. how do you apply the mastery canceling rule when the two sides have both mastery and non mastery characters?
