I was looking for a counterexample where the simple group mechanic was the only natural one, but couldn't find any, so I think I will use some variant of the other mechanics.

This has an interesting design philosophy consequence, namely that the PCs are always the actors and whatever roll the narrator might make, it's always for the resistance. So even if someone is attacking you, the "active" skill is the one with which you try to defend, while the attack's target number is the resistance (i.e., the difficulty level) to your "avoid attack" action.

Then again, maybe not, so let's change topic... :)

Re: Equipment, edges etc. I like the way Pendragon scales everything on the basic character (the knight). Given that in Glorantha it seems that everyone can, and usually will, use at least a spear and a shield, and wear at least leather armor, it would be sensible to set that equipment's bonuses to 0, and start from there. So spear/axe/sword/... 0, long spear/pole axe/ great sword/... +1 (or whatever), dagger -1 and so on. The same for armor, of course.
