Follower rules? (was Re: Augments?)

It is discussed in the Heroquest pre-view that was handed out at Gloranthacon...

Followers are now broken down into two types - retainers (spearcarriers, servants, etc) and sidekicks.

Retainers have only a single keyword at 17. That's it. They could be warriors, grooms, local guides (Homeland keyword) or well trained animals (animal keyword at the default values). Retainers are easily replacable. All retainers are dealt with through the same relationship (Leader to Followers, frex). Keywords cannot be increased.

Sidekicks are a bit more useful. They have a keyword and several other abilities (which may be a part of the keyword). These abilities can be considerably higher than the keyword, depending on how the follower is set up. Heroes can spend HP on sidekick abilities if they wish as if they were their own (remember that the keyword will stay at the initial value). Sidekicks can be replaced but it may take time/effort. Unique sidekicks may be irreplaceable. Each sidekick is managed by their own relationship to the hero.

Hope this helps,

Jeff
