I must say that I like this approach; it strikes me as a good deal more sensible than coming up with ever-more-intricate grand cosmological ideas about why a given entity must be a source of common magic, or a source of some otherworld-specialist magic, and never the twain shall meet.

Bottom-up, and not top-down, if you will.

I'd think one might even be able to mix and match fairly readily. (Between the latter two, that is.)
