The Internet swallowed a really great post by me on this. Never
mind. Brief summary:
- Magic is adult and sacred to Heortlings, responsible use only
- New ways and experimentation are bad - EWF, God Learners, Lunars.
Therefore children should not play with magic without permission.
- Gagarth is the Heortling magic from those who reject societies
rules. A Lord of the Flies style kids scenario would probably have
them all 'discovering' their initiation into Gagarth - power without
community and responsibility.
- Horror as a genre and particuarly teen horror draws on the theme
of kids entering the adult sex world and being punished (Carrie, Cat
People, Ginger Snaps spring immediately to mind). First found of
course in Red Riding Hood. So we might well have myths about kids
who learn to much, turn into horrible chaos entities and stalk
communities, told at bedtime to scare kids into good behaviour. MGF
suggests that they could become real as a story or plotline.
- If you want Harry Potter style schools of magic the Empire, with
its experimentation is probably a more suitable glorantha location.
