Or if someone withdraws from it. If the objective of the contest changes too much, or it's just ceasing to make sense in its original terms, that's an option to consider. The loser/withdrawer may suffer some sort of consequences from doing so appropriate to the nature of the first contest, but still be allowed to initiate a second, different one. (e.g., if the first contest is specifically 'social engineering', the penalties may be related to confidence, reputation, etc, whereas the followup may be more mayhem-related).

But if the first contest is still being persued, but simply by different *means*, then it sounds more like a continuation of the same one, to me.
