How many HP in HQ?

There was a discussion a few months ago about how many HP to give out. It was pointed out that in Hero Wars, in the typical campaign the first three or four points always went into the characters prime abilities, typically close combat and/or ranged combat and then maybe favored magic, and other abilities were only improved after that.

Has anyone been running the HQ rules long enough, with the old close combat and ranged combat sub-divided into any number of skills, to get a feel if this changes? i.e. Is a warrior apt to increase his sword skill and his dagger skill (if he used both), or do most players just increase one favored melee ability and one favored ranged combat ability?

The reason I ask is that it might usefully affect guidance on how many HP to give out....if the list of "always improve" skills goes up from ~3 to 4-5, then if you are suggesting enough HP that heroes will buy up other abilities, you need to be giving out a little more.
