An makes the rest of the extended contest pointless. Which is to completely misunderstand the reason for having extended contests. Exteneded contests are used when the outcome is very uncertain and there could be reversals before achieving victory. The WHOLE POINT of an extended contest continuing when one contestant has few APs is that the   contest might be able to do a dramatic action that turns the tables. For example, changing a swearing contest to a physical combat. If the narrator did not want to allow such a possibility, he shoudl have decided to use a Simple Contest.
