Hm. Can we list the known (and presumed) exceptions to the otherworld
boundaries?
- Lunars: You can specialize in "lunar magic", using magic from any
otherworld, but no non-Lunar magic from any otherworld
- Storm Bull/Urox/Taurox: In HQ, worshippers could use freely from all
worlds without paying "misapplied worship" costs; presumably, in HW, users
can concentrate their magic (all Uroxi are devotees, and thus, concentrated)
while still combining feats and spirits, and perhaps spells
- Trolls: According to UTTOG, trolls can freely mix underworld magic from
the "circle of eight" without paying misapplied worship costs. Presumably,
in HQ, trolls can "concentrate" while still combining underworld spirits and
feats. (Question: Are they concentrating in "underworld magic", or in
"circle of eight magic"? If they're concentrating in underworld magic, are
their other underworld cults/races that do similar?)
- Speaking of trolls, let's not forget Zorak Zoran: Theistic god, but with
an animist subcult (Amastan) providing fire spirits
- Elves: seem to combine theism and animism, though according to them,
they're doing something completely different--they're joining in cosmic
Songs, and the Songs are being confused with gods or spirits. That said, the
Song of Halamalo was apparently sufficiently theistish that it could be used
to help create/reconstruct the Cult of Yelmalio.
- Chaos: Like the Underworld, the Chaos Realm seems to be an otherworld all
of its own. I don't think the HQ rules say this yet, but it wouldn't
surprise me if Chaos entities mixed otherworld magic types, and if Chaos
creatures could concentrate in Chaos magics (mixing Chaos magic freely while
paying the half-costs for concentrated magic). Some Chaos types might even
be able to absorb/corrupt/taint non-Chaos magic, making it sufficiently
chaotic for them to use. (Cases in point: Than headhunting, Atyar mind
devouring, and Vivamort draining can all transfer magic to the chaotic
being.)
- Lankhor Mhy: Partial exception. Began as a mixed essence/god; when the
worlds were shattered, he chose to become a pure god, but preserved his
sorcerous abilities in the alchemical scrolls. In HW, his devotees could use
the scrolls but paid misapplied worship costs. In HQ, perhaps his devotees
can concentrate in theism but still use the scrolls, provided they pay the
double-cost for the scroll magic?
Am I totally off base on any of these? Are there any cases I'm forgetting?
