I use extended contests for melees (and a few events) where I think
a player might die. Having a player die from a simple contest seems
harsh as their is no chance for decisions to be made, its just a
simple die roll and luck can make it tragic. Extended contests slow
things down and allows players to see what is ahead, if they
bother... Plus when I shift to extended contests now the players
know something is up, and pay more attention...
