Nah, I meant that these abilities were not being used for their most
narrowly defigned purpose, so I gave the player a -5 penalty.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, BTW. The idea of switching abilities after the contest begins appeals to my passive-agressive nature.
Player: "I slash at him with my highly augmented sword!" Enemy: "Crap! I run."
Player: "Ok, so I run after him, augmented with the following laundry
list of auto-augments."
Enemy: "Crap! I climb the nearest tree."
Player: "OK, so I climb the tree also, augmented with the following
laundry list of auto-augments."
Enemy: "Crap! I jump from this tree to the next."
Player: "Oh, to hell with it!"
