I don't see it. If the losing guy thinks he's got a chance of inflicting a wound, surely that means he's got a chance to win the contest, or at least get back into the running?

I don't like this at all, for a variety of reasons. First of all, the degree of the wound has nothing to do with the APs you bid. Surely a reckless attack should generaly cause worse wounds than a cautious one? Yet here it only affects the possible negative consequences to yourself, so when using this option why would you ever make anything other than a 1 AP bid?. To do otherwise is increasing the risk to yourself while having no effect on how much you might hurt your opponent.

Secondly, the degree of the injury is based on ability you didn't even use in the attack. That's just truly bizzare. If you didn't use it in the attack, how can it affect the degree of the injury?
